Section 1

Agreement to These Terms

How these Terms apply to you

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of all Mr.Clu desktop software applications and the mr-clu.com website (“Software” and “Website” respectively, and together the “Services”). By downloading, installing, running, or otherwise using any Mr.Clu Software, or by accessing or browsing the Website, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms.

If you do not agree to these Terms in their entirety, you must not use the Services. Your continued use of the Services following any update to these Terms constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

These Terms are a legal agreement between you and Mr.Clu (the individual operating as Mr.Clu, reachable at by.mr.clu@gmail.com).

Section 2

Software Covered

Which applications these Terms apply to

These Terms apply to all current and future Mr.Clu software applications, including:

  • ›CLU VIEW: a Windows hardware sensor panel and dashboard application
  • ›VU1 Dial Controller: a Windows application for controlling Streacom VU1 analogue dials, including optional weather and audio features
  • ›Spec Card Generator: a Windows application for generating PC specification images from local hardware data
  • ›CLU’D IN: a Windows gaming diagnostics application (in active development; subject to additional terms upon release)

These Terms also apply to all content, features, and functionality available on the mr-clu.com website, including articles, documentation, changelogs, and media.

Section 3

Licence Grant

What you are permitted to do with Mr.Clu software

Subject to your full and ongoing compliance with these Terms, Mr.Clu grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable, limited licence to:

  • ›Download and install the Software on devices that you own or control
  • ›Run the Software for personal, non-commercial use, including personal PC monitoring, hardware visualisation, dial control, gaming diagnostics, and spec card generation
  • ›Make a reasonable number of backup copies of the Software for your own use

Current public releases of Mr.Clu Software are provided free of charge. No account, subscription, or payment is required. This may change for future premium features or releases; existing free functionality will not be retroactively paywalled without reasonable notice.

This licence does not convey any right, title, or interest in Mr.Clu’s source code (except as permitted by applicable open-source licences for specific components), intellectual property, brand assets, or any other proprietary material.

Section 4

Restrictions

What you are not permitted to do

You must not do any of the following:

  • ›Sell, sublicence, lease, rent, loan, or otherwise commercially exploit the Software or any part of it
  • ›Repackage, rebrand, or redistribute official Mr.Clu binary releases as your own product or under any other name
  • ›Bundle or distribute the Software alongside malware, adware, spyware, or any software disclosed to the end user in a misleading or deceptive way
  • ›Misrepresent the origin, authorship, capabilities, or safety record of the Software
  • ›Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law or by an applicable open-source licence covering a specific component (see the Licenses page)
  • ›Remove, obscure, or alter any copyright notice, licence notice, or proprietary legend in the Software or its documentation
  • ›Use the Software or Website to violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation
  • ›Use the Software to gain unauthorised access to, disrupt, or damage any computer, network, system, or data belonging to a third party
  • ›Use automated tools to scrape, index, or systematically download content from the Website without prior written permission

Section 5

Open-Source Components

How open-source licences interact with these Terms

Mr.Clu Software incorporates open-source libraries, drivers, and fonts. Some of these components carry licences that grant you rights in addition to or different from this licence. In particular:

  • ›Compiled binaries of CLU VIEW and VU1 Dial Controller link PyQt6 (GPL v3, Riverbank Computing Ltd.). Under GPL v3 you have the right to receive the corresponding Mr.Clu application source code on request at by.mr.clu@gmail.com.
  • ›LibreHardwareMonitorLib (MPL-2.0) and Qt 6 libraries (LGPL v3) impose their own notice and source-availability requirements. Modified copies of MPL-2.0 and LGPL-3.0 covered files are available from the upstream repositories linked on the Licenses page.
  • ›Where an applicable open-source licence grants you rights that conflict with these Terms, the open-source licence terms prevail for those specific components only.

A full list of third-party components and their licences is on the Licenses page.

Section 6

Hardware Access & System Risk

Specific risks associated with sensor reading and kernel-level features

CLU VIEW and VU1 Dial Controller read hardware sensor data through Windows APIs, LibreHardwareMonitorLib (MPL-2.0), and optionally low-level Windows kernel drivers (PawnIO or WinRing0). You acknowledge and accept the following:

  • ›Kernel driver risk: Installing and running kernel-level drivers involves elevated system privileges and carries inherent risk, including the possibility of system instability, hardware damage, or security exposure. Only enable optional driver features if you understand and accept these risks.
  • ›Antivirus alerts: Hardware-access components may trigger alerts from antivirus or Windows Defender SmartScreen. These alerts result from the nature of low-level hardware access and code-signing status, not from malicious intent. Mr.Clu is not liable for consequences arising from your choice to proceed past such warnings.
  • ›Accuracy: Sensor readings may be inaccurate, incomplete, absent, or misleading depending on your hardware, firmware, drivers, and operating system version. Do not rely on Mr.Clu software readings for safety-critical, medical, industrial, financial, or other high-stakes decisions.
  • ›Admin elevation: CLU VIEW can optionally configure itself to launch at Windows startup with elevated privileges using the Task Scheduler. This feature requires your explicit consent and triggers a Windows UAC prompt. Mr.Clu is not responsible for unintended consequences arising from your granting of elevated permissions.

Section 7

Network Features & External Contacts

Every network request made by Mr.Clu software

Mr.Clu Software makes the following outbound network connections. No product analytics or usage telemetry is transmitted to Mr.Clu:

  • ›CLU VIEW update check: CLU VIEW may periodically request mr-clu.com/cluview-update.json (version 1.x) or mr-clu.com/cluview-latest.json (version 2.x) via HTTPS to check whether a newer version is available. The request is domain-whitelisted to mr-clu.com, size-limited, and contains no hardware data, configuration, or identifying information beyond your IP address (processed by Cloudflare per their Privacy Policy). If you accept an update in version 2.x, the application then downloads the installer from downloads.mr-clu.com and verifies its cryptographic signature before running it.
  • ›CLU VIEW Template Store: While you have the Template Store open inside CLU VIEW, the application contacts mr-clu.com to list published templates, load their preview images, download a template you choose to install, and (only if you choose to give one) send a star rating for a template you have downloaded. No account is involved and no hardware data, configuration or panel content is transmitted. Downloads and ratings are recorded as described in the Privacy Policy. Submitting a template of your own is done through the website, not the application, and is covered by Section 9 below.
  • ›VU1 Dial Controller update check: A few seconds after start-up, VU1 Dial Controller requests mr-clu.com/vu1-update.json via HTTPS to check whether a newer version is available. It contains no hardware data, configuration, or identifying information beyond your IP address (processed by Cloudflare per their Privacy Policy).
  • ›VU1 Dial Controller weather (optional, user-initiated): When the weather feature is enabled by you, the application contacts ipapi.co (IP geolocation) and then Open-Meteo (weather data). These requests are described fully in the Privacy Policy. Disabling the weather feature prevents all such requests.
  • ›Spec Card Generator update check: On start-up, Spec Card Generator requests mr-clu.com/speccard-update.json via HTTPS to check whether a newer version is available. It contains no hardware data, configuration, or identifying information beyond your IP address (processed by Cloudflare per their Privacy Policy). All hardware detection and image generation is performed locally, and no hardware data or generated image is ever transmitted.
  • ›Update-check counting: Each of the update checks above is served by mr-clu.com, which records one aggregate row per day derived from a secret-salted hash of the requesting IP address and User-Agent. The hash is not reversible to an IP address, is not linked to any other record, and is re-salted with the date each day, so it cannot follow an installation from one day to the next. These rows therefore indicate daily traffic, not a count of installations or of people, and they are purged after 90 days along with the rest of the visit statistics. Mr.Clu software contains no install counter and no persistent identifier of any kind; see the Privacy Policy.
  • ›CLU’D IN update check: Shortly after start-up, and when you press Check for Updates, CLU’D IN requests mr-clu.com/cludin-update.json via HTTPS to check whether a newer version is available. The request is domain-whitelisted to mr-clu.com, size-limited, and contains no hardware data, configuration, or identifying information beyond your IP address (processed by Cloudflare per their Privacy Policy). If you accept an update, the application fetches mr-clu.com/cludin-latest.json, downloads the installer from mr-clu.com and verifies its cryptographic signature before running it. All diagnostics, session data and crash records remain local.

Section 8

Third-Party Services

External services linked to or integrated with the Services

The Website and Software may link to or integrate with third-party services including Cloudflare, Patreon, Buy Me a Coffee, Discord, Reddit, X (Twitter), Facebook, YouTube, ipapi.co, Open-Meteo, and others. Mr.Clu is not responsible for the content, availability, accuracy, privacy practices, or security of any third-party service. Your use of third-party services is governed entirely by those services’ own terms and privacy policies, and any contract formed is between you and the relevant third party only.

Links to third-party services do not constitute an endorsement, affiliation, or partnership unless explicitly stated.

Section 9

Intellectual Property

Ownership of Mr.Clu brand and content

The Mr.Clu name, logo, brand assets, website design, application UI design, icons, written content, articles, and screenshots are the exclusive intellectual property of Mr.Clu. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use Mr.Clu’s branding, trade names, or trademarks without prior written permission, except to the minimum extent necessary to accurately identify the Software in a review, compatibility notice, or similar fair-use context.

User-generated content (such as spec cards generated with Spec Card Generator, or CLU VIEW profiles and templates you design) remains owned by you. Mr.Clu makes no claim to content created with its tools.

CLU VIEW Template Store submissions. If you submit a template to the CLU VIEW Template Store, you confirm that you created it (or otherwise hold the right to share it) and you grant Mr.Clu a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to host, display and distribute it for free through the Template Store, the CLU VIEW application and mr-clu.com. You keep ownership of your template and may ask for it to be removed at any time. Every submission is reviewed by a moderator before publication, and Mr.Clu may decline, edit the listing metadata of, or remove any submission at its discretion, in particular any submission that breaches the Submission Rules. Submitted templates are distributed free of charge; do not upload anything you intend to sell. Rejected submissions and their files are deleted after 30 days.

Third-party names, logos, and trademarks referenced in the Software or on this Website remain the property of their respective owners. See the Licenses page for a full trademark attribution list.

Section 10 — Important

Disclaimer of Warranties

Mr.Clu makes no warranties about the Software or Website

THE SOFTWARE AND WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MR.CLU EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • ›Implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement
  • ›Warranties that the Software will meet your requirements or expectations
  • ›Warranties that the Software will operate continuously, without interruption, error, or defect
  • ›Warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or currency of hardware sensor readings
  • ›Warranties that the Software is compatible with your specific hardware configuration, firmware version, or operating system
  • ›Warranties that defects in the Software will be identified or corrected
  • ›Warranties that the Software is free from viruses or other harmful components (though Mr.Clu makes reasonable efforts to ensure this)

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain implied warranties. In such jurisdictions, the above exclusions apply to the fullest extent permitted by law. The Software is a personal project provided free of charge; the disclaimers above reflect the reasonable expectations for such software.

Section 11 — Important

Limitation of Liability

Limits on Mr.Clu’s financial exposure arising from use of the Services

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MR.CLU BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES WHATSOEVER, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE OR WEBSITE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • ›Loss of data, files, or system configurations
  • ›Hardware damage, system instability, or component failure
  • ›Business interruption or loss of revenue or profits
  • ›Cost of procuring substitute software or services
  • ›Any claim by a third party arising from your use of the Services

This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory under which the claim is brought (contract, tort, strict liability, or otherwise) and even if Mr.Clu has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Mr.Clu’s total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising from or relating to these Terms or the Services shall not exceed the greater of: (a) the total amount you paid to Mr.Clu in the twelve months preceding the claim; or (b) £10 (ten pounds sterling). Because the Software is currently provided free of charge, this limit will typically be £10.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation of liability for certain types of damages. In such jurisdictions, liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Section 12

Indemnification

Your obligation to protect Mr.Clu from claims arising from your conduct

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Mr.Clu from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to:

  • ›Your use of the Software or Website in violation of these Terms
  • ›Your violation of any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right (including intellectual property rights)
  • ›Any content you create, share, or distribute using Mr.Clu Software
  • ›Your use of optional low-level hardware-access features, including any damage to hardware or operating system stability that results

Section 13

Termination

How and when this licence ends

This licence is effective until terminated. Mr.Clu may terminate or suspend your licence immediately and without notice if you materially breach these Terms or if required to do so by applicable law. Upon termination for any reason, the following apply:

  • ›Your right to use the Software ceases immediately
  • ›You must delete all copies of the Software in your possession or control
  • ›Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Intellectual Property, Disclaimer of Warranties, Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, and Governing Law) continue in full force and effect

You may terminate this licence at any time by uninstalling the Software and deleting all copies.

Section 14

Dispute Resolution

How disagreements about these Terms should be handled

In the event of any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services, you agree to first attempt to resolve the dispute informally by contacting Mr.Clu at by.mr.clu@gmail.com. Mr.Clu will make reasonable efforts to address your concern within 30 days of receipt.

If informal resolution is unsuccessful, any formal legal action must be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking urgent injunctive or other equitable relief from a court where necessary to protect intellectual property or confidential information.

Section 15

Changes to These Terms

How and when these Terms are updated

Mr.Clu may revise these Terms at any time to reflect changes to the Software, applicable law, or Mr.Clu’s practices. Revised Terms will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. For material changes, Mr.Clu may additionally post a notice in the Software or on the Website.

Your continued use of the Services after revised Terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of those Terms. If you disagree with revised Terms, your only remedy is to stop using the Services and delete the Software.

Section 16

Severability & Entire Agreement

General legal provisions

Severability: If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed entirely if modification is not possible. The remaining provisions continue in full force and effect.

Waiver: Mr.Clu’s failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.

Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Licenses page, constitute the entire agreement between you and Mr.Clu with respect to the Services and supersede all prior or contemporaneous agreements, representations, or understandings relating to the subject matter herein.

No Assignment: You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without Mr.Clu’s prior written consent. Mr.Clu may assign its rights and obligations freely.

Section 16A

Consumer Law & Governing Law

Rights these Terms cannot take away, and which law applies

Consumer guarantees. Our goods and services come with guarantees that can’t be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these Terms limits them, or similar rights you have where you live.

Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and its courts may hear disputes. If you are a consumer elsewhere, you keep the protection of the laws where you live.
